The first 16 weeks of life are critical for vaccine protection. Here's the schedule we follow at Riverpark.
Puppies
6–8 weeks: First DHPP and deworming. 10–12 weeks: DHPP booster, optional Bordetella. 14–16 weeks: Final DHPP, rabies, and lifestyle vaccines (lepto, lyme, influenza). 6 months: Spay/neuter discussion.
Kittens
6–8 weeks: First FVRCP and deworming. 10–12 weeks: FVRCP booster, FeLV (if appropriate). 14–16 weeks: Final FVRCP, rabies, FeLV booster. 5–6 months: Spay/neuter.
What's in each vaccine?
DHPP protects against distemper, hepatitis, parvo, and parainfluenza. FVRCP protects cats against herpes, calici, and panleukopenia. Rabies is required by law in California.
Lifestyle add-ons
Bordetella for boarding/daycare/grooming dogs. Leptospirosis for dogs that hike or have wildlife exposure. FeLV for cats with outdoor access or other cats in the home.
